Who we are
Forecourt (forecourtai.vercel.app / getforecourt.com) is a UK used-car intelligence service for car dealers. We're the data controller for personal data we collect via this site.
What we collect
- Account data — email address (via Clerk, our sign-in provider) and your subscription tier (via Stripe, our payment processor). We don't store card numbers.
- What you search — plates you look up are stored against your account so you can see your history. Anonymous (signed-out) lookups aren't linked to you.
- Saved plates and notes — if you're on the Dealer plan and save plates with private notes, they're stored against your account and visible only to you.
- Lead emails — if you use the “Email me this report” capture on /reg, we store your email, the plate you asked about, and whether you opted in to our weekly market notes. Anonymous lookups can be linked to this row by email if you re-use the same address. You can opt out of marketing emails any time from any email we send, or by emailing us.
- Valuation scan log — paid plates you scan for live valuations are logged against your account for quota tracking and to skip charging you again for the same plate (re-scans are free).
- AI repair-cost queries — when you ask Claude to estimate a repair (e.g. “clutch slipping on a 2014 Fiesta”), the text you typed plus the make/model/year are sent to Anthropic. We log the query + the response so we can improve the prompt and so you can refer back. We don't train any model on your input.
- Usage analytics — page views, referrer, browser type, hashed IP, country code from Vercel's geo headers. Standard product analytics so we can see what works. No third-party advertising trackers.
- Feedback — if you click the 👍/👎 widget and leave a comment, we store that with the page URL and the plate context (if any). Helps us improve the product.
Vehicle data we look up
When you enter a plate, we query DVLA (UK vehicle register) and DVSA (UK MOT history) via their public APIs, and cross-reference live used-car listings on Marketcheck UK. When you run a paid valuation scan we additionally query UK Vehicle Data (UKVD) via the One Auto API for real trade + retail values. None of those providers know which Forecourt user made the lookup. Vehicle data is cached for up to 30 days so a second scan of the same plate (by you or anyone else) is free and instant.
Why we collect it
- To run the service you signed up for (account, payments, lookups).
- To remember your search history and Dealer-plan saved plates.
- To improve the product (analytics, feedback).
- To prevent abuse (rate-limiting, fraud detection).
We process this data on the basis of contract necessity (running the service) and legitimate interest (analytics, security). Marketing emails — if we ever send them — would be on consent only.
Who sees it
- You, on your dashboard.
- The Forecourt team (two founders, UK-based) for support and product improvement.
- Our processors: Clerk (auth), Stripe (payments), Neon (database hosting, EU), Vercel (hosting, EU), Resend (transactional + marketing email), Anthropic (AI repair-cost estimator — your typed description plus the make/model/year are sent to Claude), One Auto / UK Vehicle Data (paid plate valuation lookup). They process under data-processing agreements and only do what we instruct.
- Government APIs (DVLA, DVSA) and market-data APIs (Marketcheck UK, One Auto / UKVD) — they see the plate or model query, not who made it.
We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers. We don't run ad-tech trackers.
How long we keep it
- Account data: until you delete your account.
- Search history + scan log: until you delete your account, or you ask us to clear it.
- Lead emails: until you ask us to delete them, or unsubscribe from all communications.
- Analytics: 90 days, then auto-deleted.
- Feedback: retained while we have the product, since it informs improvements.
- Valuation cache: 30 days, then refreshed from source.
- DVLA / DVSA / Marketcheck cache: up to 24 hours, then refreshed from source.
- AI repair-cost queries: stored against your account so you can refer back; deletable on request.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can:
- Ask what we hold about you (subject access request).
- Ask us to correct anything that's wrong.
- Ask us to delete your account and the data we hold.
- Export your search history as a CSV.
- Object to a specific use (we'll explain or stop).
Email getforecourt@gmail.com and we'll handle it within 30 days. If you're unhappy with our response, you can complain to the UK ICO at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
We use only essential cookies: one for sign-in (set by Clerk), one for checkout (set by Stripe), and one anonymous session ID for analytics. No advertising cookies, no third-party trackers. We don't need a cookie banner because nothing we set is non-essential under PECR.
Changes to this notice
If we make material changes we'll update the "last updated" date at the top and — for active subscribers — email you a heads-up.
